Barkala Farmstay is a working Australian farm and also home of the famous Pilliga Pottery. Located just 30km North of Coonabarabran, NSW this farmstay offers a unique opportunity to experience rural life on an Australian Farm.

Guests can get involved in daily farm activities such as milking the cow (seasonal), feeding the goats, sheep, pony, chooks and guinea pigs, toasting marshmellows by the fire (outside of bushfire season only) or walking any number of the 60km bushwalking tracks across the 12,000 acre farm.

Choose to camp in the great outdoors or to stay in one of the comfortable European inspired artisan guesthouses hand-built using many materials found on the property.

This unique farmstay is an opportunity to show kids the real country life by letting them explore the animal pens, gardens and paddocks. Barkala Farm is dog friendly.

The Pottery offers free hands on clay play as well as pottery classes and there is an onsite cafe open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as refreshments all day .

The farm also has an in-ground swimming pool, volleyball court, playground for young children and ample room for ball sports.

Guests can do as much, or as little as desired while staying on the farm.

Expect a unique experience when you stay at Barkala Farmstay, it is truly unforgettable.

To access the property, guests need to travel a 10km all weather access dirt road which can get bumpy in the dry season but adds to the farm experience.

There is no cell-phone reception on the majority of the farm. Intermittent reception can be found on some of the bushwalking tracks. Essential Wifi is available in the onsite cafe for emails only. A telephone is available in the pottery for guests to use at any time, free of charge.

The Old Schoolhouse was originally built for the owners' children to attend correspondence school, but has since been transformed into self-catered accommodation with kitchenette and bathroom. The Old Schoolhouse sleeps up to 6 guests and is pet friendly.

Experience the enchanting octagonal "fairy tale castle", hand-crafted from local timbers. Relax and enjoy the beautiful views from the large, Swiss-style balcony, and take a shower in a hand-sculpted masterpiece!

There is also an in-ground swimming pool and air-conditioner for keeping cool during the summer and a gas heater and electric blankets for staying warm and cosy in the winter.

There is a loft bedroom upstairs with a double bed and two double bunks downstairs. Therefore, up to 6 people can sleep here.

The Old Schoolhouse has a small kitchen with a mini fridge and gas stove/grill if you would like to bring your own food. There is also a bbq area on the lower level with a lovely outdoor dining area.

Otherwise, we are happy to cater for all or some of your meals in our nearby Blue Wren Café, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as espresso coffee, milkshakes, scones and homemade cakes throughout the day.

Our farm is off the grid, as such, 240V AC power to the accommodation is 100% solar-based, cooking and hot water is powered by LPG gas. There is no microwave oven or electric kettle in the Old School House. If you require access to a microwave during your stay, this can be arranged.

There is no cell-phone reception on the majority of the farm including in the Old School House. Reception generally stops at the beginning of the 10km access road to our property. Intermittent reception can be found on some of the bush-walking tracks. Essential Wifi is available in the onsite cafe for emails only. Nestled between the orchard and the lightly wooded goat run, the Poet’s Cottage is secluded and peaceful, with a private driveway and parking in the rear of the building.

Featuring a fully equipped kitchen and spacious dining area, its open plan feel is warm and inviting. Stimulating natural timber beams and a hand crafted staircase give the living area the feel of a natural extension of the surrounding bush land.

Perfect for large families or groups, The Studio is a spacious, friendly and relaxing place to stay. It has 3 lovely and unique bedrooms, fitted with handmade beds and sleeps up to 15 people. The Studio is also pet friendly.

It also has a large open-plan area with kitchen, dining and recreation area. There is a ping-pong table in the recreation area as well as a lounge area with television, games and books.

For winter there is a wood-heater (wood supplied) and in summer you are welcome to use our in-ground salt water swimming pool.

The Eagle Valley cottage is a lovely cottage hand-made from natural and local materials with great attention to detail. It has 3 spacious bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen & dining area with a lounge for relaxing, and a wood-heater (wood supplied). The kitchen is lovely and modern with a gas stove and marble bench top. Eagle Valley sleeps up to 13 guests and is pet friendly.

It is set in a private location 2 kms from the cafe, pottery studio and the rest of the accommodations. It's close to bush-walking tracks and as the name of the cottage suggests, the ridge overlooking the valley is home to eagles.

The access road to Eagle Valley Cottage is not suitable for extremely low cars.

There is no cell-phone reception on the majority of the farm including Eagle Valley Cottage. Reception generally stops at the beginning of the access road to our property. Intermittent reception can be found on some of the bush-walking tracks. A UHF radio is installed in the cottage so that guests can reach staff anytime between 8am and 8pm. We charge a non-refundable deposit of $60 to confirm a booking in our guesthouses and accept Master card or Visa card.
If guests cancel 1 week prior to their arrival, 50% of the full amount of the booking will be charged to the credit card.
If guests cancel 24 hours prior to their arrival, the full amount of the booking will be charged to the credit card.
The non-refundable deposit can be used towards another date in the future during off peak season, this service is free of charge.
