Sunhaven Beach Bungalows

The quintessential South Seas hideaway. A quiet, secluded property located on the western beaches of Rarotonga away from the main road traffic. The lagoon directly in front is home to all sorts of marine life and offers excellent snorkelling. From August to October, you can watch whales from your own private verandah frolicking with their new-born calves within a stones’ throw of the reef. The stretch of pure white-sand beach lined with mature coconut palms offers plenty of opportunities for an idyllic afternoon snooze under the palms in a tree-strung hammock. Read a book or simply watch the waves crashing over the reef. In the late afternoon, enjoy a glass of wine as you watch an amazing tropical sunset disappear over the horizon.

Sunhaven is a small family-run boutique property offering just eight beachfront rooms and one garden room. These range from studio layout to one-bedroom bungalows and suites, some with A/C option. We cater mostly for couples, and offer a quiet secluded atmosphere, total relaxation and privacy. The suites and bungalows can sleep up to four adults. The suites are the most spacious and more suitable for four persons.

All beachfront rooms have a clear view of the lagoon and beyond and are just a few steps to the waters’ edge. Room features include fully equipped kitchens with bench-top cooker, fridge/freezer, filtered water, microwave oven, tea/coffee making facilities, ensuite bathroom with clear glass shower enclosure, multi-plug shaver point, king-size/twin bed option, over-bed ceiling fan, modern cane furniture, pedestal fan, TV, DVD player and CD player alarm clock. Cool ceramic tiled floors throughout, 24-hour international direct dial telephone, insect screens on all windows including ranch-slider, large private covered verandah plus sun deck. All this makes for a home away from home holiday where you have the choice of cooking in or heading out to dine at one of the many great restaurants nearby. A few are within reasonable walking distance. (Please note: the standard studio does not include all of the above features)

Property features include on-site licensed cafe, large freshwater swimming pool, poolside BBQ, hammocks, sun loungers, floating pool loungers, tour desk, guest library, on-site vehicle rentals, laundry service, hair dryer available, DVD films for rent, complimentary kayaks, snorkeling gear and reef shoes, on-site manager.

The on-site licensed Brunch Café serves breakfast, lunch and snacks with the freshest home-baked fare, ice-cold fresh fruit smoothies and excellent espresso coffee. A few after-hours provisions including wine and cold beer are available on-site for your convenience. Sunhaven is a Wifi hotspot and offers wireless internet availability anywhere on the property including all rooms. Make sure you bring your laptop. This small property has enhancements you would expect of a larger property. Our no-children policy ensures peace and quiet.

Sunhaven is 6kms from the airport, 9kms to Avarua town and just 300m to the local store. There are a dozen or more good restaurants within 3kms of the property. The popular Mt. Raemaru track is virtually at our back door. The trek up this bush-clad track is invigorating and well worth the effort. The view from the summit is breathtaking. Bring suitable shoes as it is quite steep and slippery in parts. The historic Maungaroa mountain village sits on the side of this mountain.
