SOUTHERN SECRET
The Southern Secret is an excellent vessel for your Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise. She boasts a large living area for comfortable living and dining with big windows for viewing the fiord. The top deck, bow and stern are accessible; the stern has step access right to the water line. Onboard we have 5 spacious Double or Twin Cabins accommodating just 12 guests. Each cabin is equipped with private toilet and shower en-suite; features of our roomy cabins include small windows that open to the outside, reading lights, linens and towels, soap and the convenience of a private shower and toilet en-suite.
YOUR DOUBTFUL SOUND JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY
Our small and personalised cruise gets you closer to wild and untouched Doubtful Sound. You will be accommodated on board the Southern Secret, a 20 metre launch overnight in a private ensuite cabin.
You can be either be collected from your accommodation in Te Anau or meet us at Pearl Harbour, Lake Manapouri. Here you will board a scenic cruise across Lake Manapouri (45 min cruise) to West Arm. At West Arm you will see the above ground sections of the Manapouri Power Station, an underground hydroelectric power station which is capable of generating up to 850 MW using water from Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri. It is the largest hydroelectric power station in New Zealand.
At West Arm you will meet your crew, who will take you by courtesy bus over the Wilmot Pass where you will capture breathtaking vistas of Doubtful Sound and the surrounding mountains.
You will arrive at the Southern Secret and Doubtful Sound around midday, welcome refreshments will be served as we begin to explore the environs of Doubtful Sound such as Hall Arm, Crooked Arm, Bradshaw Sound and more, all the while keep watch for inhabitants such as bottlenosed dolphins, penguins sea birds and seals.
Onboard the Southern Secret, your overnight adventure includes sightseeing and exploring the history and splendor, pause at features for photographs and to observe marine mammals, cast a line for fishing, check our crayfish traps and savor the spectacular scenery and wildlife. Activities onboard can include fishing, mammal watching and star gazing on clear evenings. Wildlife often sighted in Doubtful Sound may include bottlenose dolphins, penguins, seals and sea birds.
You will return to our office in Te Anau by 12.30pm on the following day, more details about the overnight cruise are below in the terms and conditions including what to bring
MEALS
You will be supplied with a picnic lunch at Lake Manapouri, pre-dinner snacks, delicious evening meal and breakfast onboard, complimented, where possible with the catch of the day. Most diets are catered for.
Your cruise is fully catered excluding alcohol. Complimentary tea and coffee available throughout the cruise

Once you have booked your cabin, we will email you to re-confirm your Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise with us within 24 hours.
Our cruises are smokefree and not suitable for children 7 years and under. The access to the Southern Secret at Deep Cove is steep; please contact us with any concerns. It is ESSENTIAL we are advised of any dietary/medical conditions prior to departure as Doubtful Sound is a remote location.
WHY VISIT DOUBTFUL SOUND?
Doubtful Sound is many times larger than Milford Sound and much less accessible, meaning that there are only limited numbers of people and boats on the Fiord.
The increased size of the fiord means that you are less likely to encounter numerous other vessels on your cruise and that no two cruises are the same.
Fishing is allowed on board the Southern Secret during our overnight cruises and guests are welcome to fish outside marine reserves – some species are catch and release.
Your chances of encountering Dolphins during your cruise is increased in Doubtful Sound as there is a resident pod of around 50 Bottlenosed dolphins who are endemic to the Fiord = they have been closely observed for over 20 years and have not left the Fiord for more than an hour at a time.
Please note that we do operate by a strict Marine Mammal Code to ensure your Overnight Cruise experience does not impact on these and other mammals such as seals.
Doubtful Sound’s scenery is different to Milford Sound, Milford Sound is very steep and dramatic with sharply jutted and sparsely vegetated sea cliffs.
Doubtful Sound is dotted with islands and has several “fiords” that run off the main fiord to be explored, Crooked Arm at 16 kms long, is the same length as Milford Sound.
Secretary Island in Doubtful Sound is a “Pest Free” Island Sanctuary which has a range of Native and Endangered Native New Zealand Birds released onto it. Unfortunately there is no access onto the Island Sanctuary at this stage.
As part of your Doubtful Sound Experience, you will also cruise on Lake Manapouri for 45 minutes and pass the Manapouri Power Station, an underground hydroelectric power station which is capable of generating up to 850 MW using water from Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri. Includes Scenic Float plane flight from the Southern Secret back to Lake Te Anau on the second day of your cruise (weather permitting - $265 per person payable directly to Float Plane company (rate valid until 1 May 2013)).

Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise - Departs at 9.00am from our office in Te Anau. Included is all transport from Te Anau, boat across Lake Manapouri, courtesy bus over Wilmot Pass, picnic lunch, evening meal, snacks & hot drinks, light breakfast, fishing lines and plenty of incredible scenery! Activities onboard can include fishing, kayaking, crayfishing mammal watching and star gazing on clear evenings.
The Southern Secret accommodates a maximum of 12 passengers onboard in private cabins with ensuite shower and toilet.

Please advise details of any dietary requirements and your contact details while in New Zealand in the section provided, you need to meet us in Te Anau at our office at 9.00am on the morning of departure. Weather permitting you will return to Lake Te Anau from Doubtful Sound by Scenic Float plane flight, if unable to fly you will arrive in Te Anau by 12.30pm on day 2.

Please confirm dietary requirements and any other requirements in the comments section. We will email to re-confirm your departure details for our Overnight Cruise within 24 hours. If you are booking for the following day please contact us.
Our cruises are not be suitable for children 9 years and under.
DEPARTURE DETAILS:
Departing Te Anau at 9.00am from our office located at the Te Anau Lakeview Holiday Park (77 Manapouri - Te Anau Highway, Te Anau) - returning from Manapouri approx. 12.30pm the following day. Free car parking is available while you are on the cruise.
If you would prefer to meet at another location please call us on 0800 368 283. Please be ready 15 minutes prior to the departure time above.

Due to weather, sea and other conditions beyond our control, actual route, activities and anchorage’s may vary. Fiordland Cruises reserves all rights.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Booking Conditions: Payment is fully refundable if cancelled more than 48 hours prior to departure*. If cancelled within 24-48 hours of departure a refund less 10% for administration costs will apply. If cancellation occurs within 24 hours, then there is no refund.
*Half / Full Private Charters will incur a minimum 10% penalty if cancelling. If cancelling less than 7 days prior to departure, there is no refund.
OPTIONAL EXTRA CANCELLATION POLICY
Fiordland Cruises require a minimum of 48 hours notice if you wish to cancel any optional extras you have reserved with us.
